Havasu Falls Trip 2008 Part 1
1/09/2008Ever heard the phrase “Paradise on earth” ? Well that’s what this trip was like…
In the remote canyon of Arizona lies a trailhead to paradise, nearest city i beleive is Kingman. If you ever see photos of havasu falls you’ll think, wow thats beutiful… If you see the trail head you’ll say…oh Cool…just like the Grand Canyon…and assume there’s no paradise here……WRONG!
Let’s start off by saying that it took us 7 hours to get there…we arrived on saturday at around 6am…we waited till about 9am to start our hike down… It must have been around 28 degrees…so cold there was snow on the trail…

From the trailhead to the Supai village is about 8 miles, and from the village to the falls it’s 2 miles. 10 mile hike total. Having done the Bright Angel and the Kaibab trail i though i was in for another challenging psysical and mental backpacking trip.To my surprise there wasn’t too many switchbacks or sudden elevation drops… I think the beggining and the end of the trails are the toughest, as the beggining is has many stwitchbacks and the most sudden elevation drops.

This is me trying to stay warm…

Alvaro trying to stay warm…

Yohana again under a overhanging boulder….

These are the wrost set of switchbacks on the trail.

As i always post stock textures
Free stock pack coming soon!

At it again, We continue to hike the remote parts of the Grand Canyon and we stop to take photos next to the huge pieces of rock.

Yohana being a big backpacker…

I’m not sure if it’s just me but on the trail everything seemed to be perfectly layed out for backpackers to hike down… I know to some extent the trail is man made but these rocks are HUGE and pretty heavy. Nonetheless great scenery for a hike! oh! they also provide great shade!

These have got to be the best textures of this trip…well theres some better ones coming up

This is me looking weird : /

Looks tiny right? Well that’s alvaro right there…He’s about 6′ 1″….

Another shot of a monsterous boulder! (spellcheck?) haha

Follow the path into the HUGE rocks…

Over hanging rocks, make great shelter during rain…but not earthquake safe :/

Backpacking/Geology Trivia: How did those rocks get in there?

Yohana being a big backpacker…

Alvaro caught near the Havisupai village sign

Yohana again eager to reach the waterfalls…
First Signs of water after about 9 miles of hiking…we were amazed at how clear the water was…

When we did the Grand Canyon trip we walked over the colorado river but it wasn’t as clear as this…on the contrary it was red from the dirt and rocks…

By now we are already at the Havasupai Village…let me say, before going on this trip i researched the location and anything that would affect me so i can be well prepared. From things i read online very few were nice…reviews said that the village people were mean and the whole nine yards. I thought the people were nice and friendly, they do their own thing as they are used to seeing backpackers walk by their 500 resident village.

Now this was the first sign of a waterfall…
neat huh? well you havent seen anything yet…

Another first sign of blue/green water as the last difficult mile in sand is ending…

So i was walking, enjoying the clouds, clear skies, huge chucks of earth, and the sound of water crashing down…What! I’m looking at the up and i should be looking down! Alvaro and Yohana were waving at me to come see….

i took a peek…and well…this is what i saw…Although i researched the location prior to our arrival my jaw dropped!

We stood on the last steep sand hill and just stared…the mist from the falls was hitting our face…it was a great feeling… After walking 10 miles with a 40lb backpack, I suddently felt re-energized and was ready to set up shop!
We followed the stream and it led us to the camp sites…i really wanted a site near the water. The sound of the water falling is theraphy while i’m sleeping…

It was lunch time! then we would be off to photography the falls…

I expected this from the Havasu Falls trip, it’s LONG!
